8 WordPress Plugins Every Real Estate Website Should Have

WordPress plugins add functionality to your real estate website and help you grow your business – easier. The list of must-have plugins we’re sharing below will help you manage your website, gain visibility and grow your audience.

1. Forms

Our favorite forms plugin is Formidable Forms.  (to install the free version, go to plugins > add new, type in ‘formidable’)

Formidable Forms is flexible and ease to use.  The free version is probably more than enough for the average user, but there’s also an upgraded version with a few extra perks.  You can review the features on the pricing page and if you decide to buy it, you have a 14 day money-back guarantee.

The 2 features that are the most valuable to us are:  1.  Each form submitted by a user is logged in the database and we can easily scroll through emails and respons accordingly.  2.  Styling is easy.  We like user-friendly forms on all devices and this plugin makes it easy.

Gravity Forms

We’ve used Gravity Forms for years and it is a paid plugin.  It’s the most widely used forms plugin for WordPress.  Until recently, we have switched back to Formidable Forms.

2. Social Sharing For WordPress

Monarch – This plugin allows you to share pages and posts on your site and gain followers from your social platforms.  This is a paid plugin but we believe it’s worth the small price.  It just looks good and works seamlessly.  We’ve been pleased with it.

Here’s what it looks like.  More info is available at their site:  Monarch

3. Akismet

Akismet reduces spam – a must have for any site. You will have to register your site to activate the plugin.  And, they will ask you for a donation but it’s not required.

4. Commenting

If you are looking for an alternative to the WordPress comment system, you might want to try Disqus Comment System (pronounced “Discuss”).  It’s free.

The disqus plugin replaces the WordPress comment system with comments hosted by Disqus.  Disqus is a super charged system designed to attract users and increase engagement among your site visitors.  This website is new to disqus (as of Feb 2016).  We’ll be sure to give you more feedback as we use it.

5. Quick Page/Post Redirect Plugin

Why do you need a redirect plugin? Whenever you have page or post with an updated / changed URL you’ll want to ‘redirect’ the old URL to the new URL.

The other scenario when this plugin will be helpful is if you ever do a major design of your site. You may have google indexed links that are likely to change in the new site. To keep google happy and all of your links linked correctly, you’ll create redirects when needed.

6. Yoast SEO

Yoast SEO has become over the years the industry standard for SEO and WordPress. There are several screens to configure but for the most part, the default settings will be sufficient for most users.

7. Email

Email marketing is a must to develop relationships and to turn cold leads into sales. We have 2 suggestions – MailChimp and ActiveCampaign.

MailChimp offers a free version however you’ll want the paid version to get the autoresponder feature. ActiveCampaign is more advanced with a more features – and it even includes a CRM. Both options are good, but if you’re a beginner, it may be good to start with MailChimp. You can always transfer your list to ActiveCampaign as you grow. ActiveCampaign is pretty awesome though!

8. Beaver Builder Page Builder Plugin

This is last on today’s list but this is probably best plugin we’ve discovered in the past year! Beaver Builder Page Builder Plugin allows you to create pages with a drag and drop interface. You can actually see your page as you’re creating it. It’s a huge time saver – and a pleasure to use.

So that’s it – 8 plugins that will make you a superstar. Obviously we’ve left out IDX plugins because that deserves it’s own blog post. But as far as a well-rounded feature set, these plugins are the go-to plugins for any of our custom designed websites.
